Why Kids Should Not Be Allowed To Watch Movies Like Black Christmas


When the movie Black Christmas first hit the screen in 1974, a lot of people reacted to the violent scenes in the movie. This movie is definitely not for children and adults who have a weak stomach. The strong horror and gore scenes in the movie are enough to make a sensible adults head reel. For some reason, this film made a name for itself that modern film producers became interested to remake the film and give it a more modern twist.

The remake of the Black Christmas movie was released last Christmas and a lot of critics reacted to the timing of such release. Many Christian communities said that releasing a horror movie Black Christmas on Christmas day was very insensitive and out of taste. They said that it was not fair for the films producers to do so because it ruins the image of Christmas especially for children.

Note that even though the movie black Christmas was rated R in the US, young children may still see advertisements of such movie in the media and the internet. Since children naturally have vivid imaginations, many Christian parents are disturbed by the possibility that children may connect the Christmas celebration to something evil or violent. This should not be case since Christmas is supposed to be joyous season where people should live in peace and harmony with each other. It is not fair to taint the image of a perfect Christmas in the minds of young children.

Should Violent Movies Like Black Christmas Be Banned During Christmas Season?

Everyone is free to choose his or her own brand of entertainment and totally banning movies like Black Christmas during the holiday season may not really feasible. Since banning movies like Black Christmas is not possible, it is now up to the parents to see to it that their children are not exposed to such kind of violent films. The vigilance of the parents is very much needed especially if their children have access to the internet. Young children should not be allowed to access the internet without the proper supervision of their parents.

Another way to divert the attention of the children the movies during Christmas is to allow the children to participate in some worthwhile school and community activities. If young children and teenagers are closely involved in some interesting activities in school and in the community, they will less likely have time to dwell on violent movies of any sort.
